Liberal Puritanism

     A Clinton appointee to the Federal bench, Rosemary Pooler, ruled that the NY state DMV had the right to reject a pro-life license plate, even as it allowed other political plates, on the grounds that a pro-life plate was "offensive."  Personally, I find 95% of what Bill and Hillary Clinton say to be offensive.
         But this introduces a larger problem, this being the Puritanism of the Left.  So-called Liberals have all sorts of speech that make them uncomfortable.  You mustn't say anything that makes certain groups unhappy.  Protected groups include
                                                                    :gays
                                                                      drug addicts
                                                                      prostitutes  (Use "sex workers")
                                                                      violent criminals (e.g.  "Thug" now is equivalent to the                                                                                              n-word)
                                                                      midgets (little people? That's less offensive?)
                                                                      Environmentalists (Nota bene:  Ted Kazcynski was not one.)
                              If these statements seem arbitrary or silly, then you are a bigot, right?

Loopholes

        Loopholes are often used to do that which ordinarily incurs legal or moral opprobrium.  The zombie loophole is a liberal fantasy in which the usual opprobrium attached to the taking of human life is detached by the rationale of "they're not really alive."  (See also, any NARAL argument for abortion.)  So liberals love zombies, because they can be dispatched with a shotgun blast to the head with nary a guilt feeling.  And liberals also love comparing conservatives to zombies.  During the 2012 campaign, Obama surrogates dropped zombie comparisons with Romney supporters.  (Point of fact, Romney was a wolfman, not a zombie.)  Now, Toure (yes, the hombre con un nombre strikes again) compared TEA partiers to zombies.  Now, one might say this is only a case of someone remarking on their resiliency.  Estase thinks it is more like a tacit justification for eventually murdering them.  Remember the 90s film The Last Supper,where the plot was that conservatives are so awful, sending them to the shades was the only remedy.  For every French Revolution, you have to have a September Massacres.

Update:  More signs that liberals would like to kill us.  Item, Ed Schultz refers to the lovely and chaste Laura Ingraham as "that right-wing slut, Laura Ingraham."  Item, Martin Bashir says Sarah Palin deserves scourging and having feces put in her mouth.  The Septembrists are not far off.  Get at me dawg!

Fake Issues: 1996 and 2012

State Senator Judy Eason McIntyre poses with a sign saying "If I wanted government in my womb I'd F**k a Senator" at a rally against the Oklahoma personhood bill.  Ha ha. If I wanted government in my church, I would vote for Mitt Romney.

Petasus tip to the Clue Batting Cage.  Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill is now claiming that she is supporting the Contraceptive Mandate and opposing the Blunt Amendment because she wants to reduce the number of abortions.  Hilarious!  And I'm sure that's why Dick Durbin, Kirsten Gillibrand, and all the rest of the pro-aborts want to make the Church violate her own teachings too!  It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that Obama and the liberals have made birth control the star issue of the 2012 election, and want to pretend that anyone who doesn't want government to force the Catholic Church to pay for contraceptives really wants no one to have contraceptives at all, would it?  Just like how the liberals made cigarettes the fake issue of 1996, and kept acting as though Bob Dole's whole raison d'etre was to make elementary schools hand them out like candy?  No, changing the subject from real to fake issues is never a liberal tactic!

Freedom From Religion Foundation Trots Out Bertie

The Freedom From Religion Foundation thinks Contraception is like using an umbrella(?), says liberal Catholics are "better" than their "antidiluvian, ignorant" church, and trots out pacifist commie philosopher Bertie Russell in a vitriolic ad aimed at getting liberal Catholics to leave.  Frankly, any stupid enough to fall for this should have left long before. McCaskill Rejects Blunt Amendment

Putative moderate, Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill, joined with radical liberals like Dick Durbin and Kirsten Gillibrand in supporting the Contraception Mandate by rejecting the Blunt Amendment.  Senator McCaskill represents a state which would reject the kind of politics she espouses if she were up front and honest about who she is, which is emphatically not a moderate.

Occupy Your Church

Tip of the petasus to LifeSiteNews.  Occupy Providence attacks a pro-life rally in the Rhode Island capital, throwing condoms onto Catholic school girls, shouting down speakers, and refusing to let a priest close the event with a prayer.  OWS is not just about rich people anymore.  Go to Salon.com, those slimeballs have seen fit to devote a whole section of their website to these Stalinists.  They want abortion as much as redistribution of wealth.  I remember reading an article by a priest defending OWS as having legitimate grievances.  I hope the Catholic clergy wakes up on OWS.  It reminds me of a Industrial Workers of the World poster which showed a rich person with the caption "They Eat for You," and then showed a Catholic priest with the caption "They Fool You."  The Wobblies also had a song deriding religion called "Long Haired Preacher Man." 

Richard Cohen of the Washington Post says the GOP is brain dead, giving as evidence. . . .well, don't worry about why.  But the fact that Republican candidates are different in outlook than Teeth-Clicker means they're yahoos.  I wonder what he thinks of the people who elected Bachmann Congresswoman?  Or the people who elected Santorum Senator?  Bumpkins, dolts, morons all.  The really enlightened people are we Illinoisians, who not only elected Teeth-Clicker to the Congress and Senate, but have proven our mettle with a wide variety of distinguished statesmen.  Jim Thompson, the son of the fabulously corrupt Chicago Mayor Big Bill Thompson.  Paul Simon, who knew about as much about government as the singer of the same name.  George Ryan, he of the bribed DMV workers.  Dick Durbin, the Special Olympian of the Senate.  And last, but not least, Rod Blagogevich, the seller of Teeth-Clicker's Senate seat.  Yes, compared to Illinois, the people of Pennsylvania and Minnesota are indeed bumpkins, dolts and morons.  Thanks for pointing out their anti-intellectualism Mr. Cohen!

Tip of the petasus to Biased BBC.  St. Andrew's University has a conservative organization,which, according to tradition, has something they call a heretic burning to commemorate Guy Fawkes Day.  Typically, political organizations pick a member of the other team to burn in effigy.  The Brit Cons chose Oh Blah Blah for the honor this year, and predictably the BBC pretended that this is racist.  Was it bigotry against WASPs to call George W. Bush Hitler, the Smirking Chimp, or a retard?  Civility in politics is all-important to the left, except where their opponents are concerned.

Purple Shirts Against Walker

Estase just read that the recall election against Wisconsin Governor Scott Brown is costing the Cheeseheads nearly eight million Dollars.  A vendetta waged against anyone whose judgement counters the public employees' unions.  At least Wisconsin, unlike the People's Republic of Illinois, has politicians who can stand up to greedy public employees.  Illinois has been broken by the fact that it has to pay two or three pensions to some retired teachers.  No state can afford to pay one retired employee more than one pension, and it is immoral to expect the public to pay one person more than one pension.  Ask a military retiree whether anyone seems interested in paying for their healthcare, and then look at a schoolteacher living like a crowned head of Europe.

And on an unrelated topic, here's a message to Democrats.  Extraconstitutional means ILLEGAL.  Estase thought it was an abberation when Governor Perdue of North Carolina wanted to suspend 2012's elections (see my previous blog, "Septennial Act Redux"), but now Congressman Jessie Jackson Jr. is advocating that Oh Blah Blah overrule Congress and act as a dictator, claiming that the legally elected U.S. Congress is on a par with the Confederacy!?!   OK, Congressman, let me explain this to you.  We have two elected branches of government under a little thing called the CONSTITUTION.  The idea of it is that neither can act independently of the other.  See also "Checks and Balances."  What you are calling for is a dictatorship, pure and simple.  Were you elected by the dupes of Shiitown to create a dictatorship?  Why don't you shut the hell up and let your father be the only idiot in your family? 

Facts, Schmacks!

Semper Vigilans tells us that PBS is covering up for Oh Blah Blah's history gaffe Thursday night, where he claimed Lincoln founded the Republican Party.  This is the kind of thing that would have been big news if it were Michele Bachmann who said this. PBS has become an instrument of public indoctrination, bereft of token conservatives like Ben Wattenburg and William F. Buckley.  Only the hard left would mourn the loss of PBS. 

APSA Agrees--Smurfs Belong to Tea Party

Like their less intelligent equivalents, the sociologist, the American Political Science Association convenes to opine that the Tea Party is racist.  And as we all know from the previous blog, the cuddly Smurfs are the apex in racist authoritarianism.  Remember the Smurfs cartoon where the Smurfs let the Chipmunks have it with a fire hose?

Are the Smurfs Members of the Tea Party?

One of the truly typical things about modern life is trying to find political messages in places where they don't exist.  I read about a French (ahem) academic who believes that the Smurfs are fascists, based on the fact that they share everything and do what Papa Smurf tells them.  This reminds me a lot of the theory Jerry Falwell had about how the Teletubbies were pro-homosexual because Tinky Winky was purple and his antenna is an inverted triangle.

Today I read a similarly befuddling piece detailing a report by sociologists (ahem) that claimed that the Tea Party movement are small-minded, superstitious authoritarians.  My question now is, in light of our esteemed sociology friends, do the Smurfs belong to the Tea Party movement?

The thing that makes this so utterly ridiculous is that another theory is that the word "Smurfs," coined by a Frenchman, is an anagram for "Small men under red forces."  If the word Smurfs was an anagram for anything, wouldn't it be a phrase in French?

Green Thomism and Other Nonsense

Thomism gives a simple view of the world--question and answer, right and wrong.  Similarly, liberals believe that right and wrong can be defined as liberal and conservative.  So when you give a liberal Thomism, it is like walking into a room full of natural gas with a lit cigarette.

Thus Catholic liberals can excommunicate their opponents with a breathtaking self-assurance because they have two forms of totalizing ideology--liberal statism and medieval scholasticism.  Think of MSNBC married to the Spanish Inquisition.

The Judas Party

Hat tip to Christina King:  Lady Gaga has a new "song" called "I'm in Love With Judas,"  where she declares her undying devotion to Christ's betrayer.

NOW, point of fact:  Senator Frank Lautenberg and Senator Tom Harkin have both used the promotion of offering to go to a Lady Gaga concert with anyone stupid enough to give them a huge campaign donation.

SO, is it reasonable to assume that Senators Lautenburg and Harkin like Judas Iscarius better than Jesus Christ?  After all, the President said we are no longer a Christian nation.  So Oh Blah Blah, Harkin, and Lautenberg all like Judas better than Jesus?  Are the Democrats the Judas Party?

A Misconception Challenged, and Madison WI Too!

The old solon who blogs as Ciceroanus had an interesting blog recently.  This fellow claims to venerate both Cicero and John Dewey, which seems to me rather contradictory, as Cicero was a moral realist and John Dewey was a pragmatist.  Hence the titular misconception.  The solon said he had a sympathy for natural law, and (rightly) said that natural law can exist even if there is no God.  So far, so good.  He went off the rails when he suggested that natural law can exist without moral absolutes, which is a preposterous claim.   Natural law is tied to the idea that things that are wrong one place are necessarily wrong everwhere.  This is what Plato and Cicero were emphatic about.  Now, if something can only be moral or immoral in all places, I cannot see any way in which morality can be anything other than absolute.  This is the problem;  someone like John Dewey would say that what is useful is what is true, but Dewey was a moral subjectivist, not a natural law thinker.

Events in Madison, Wisconsin show that the radical Left is denying reality.  All the people of Wisconsin need to see what will happen to their state if public employee benefits are not reigned in is look south to Illinois, Estase's state, which is in worse financial shape than Iraq.  I remember a loony economics professor I had that claimed (I'm not making this up) that wages were "like the song Alice's Restaurant;  you can have anything you want."  The problem with public employees is that they BELIEVE their wages can be whatever they want.

Irish Anti-Semitism

I am always surprised at what lunatic leftists my cousins across the pond are. I came across a "pro-life" blog called "Thought and Action" that was turgid with anti-Israel, anti- Iraq war propaganda. Need I say again that the Islamic community was extremely friendly to Hitler, and that the fact that the modern left (even in Ireland!) is so friendly to the Islamic world is one of the most damning things about them.

The Absurdity of Nominalism

In the Bible, Jepthah was a warrior who sacrificed his daughter a la Iphiginia for military victory. Since that was the name of my great-grandmother's father, maybe she was kept up nights worrying about her impending doom. What's the unsexiest name on earth? My answer will be Druscilla. Druscilla Strain did not live up (or down) to her name. In the Ray Bradbury novel Fahrenheit 451, a politician lost an election simply because his name was Hubert Hoag.

Things aren't great because they sound good, nor bad because they sound bad. Politics is becoming a really good example of this. People keep embracing sound bite politics, politics based on slick promotion, and politics based on nice-sounding catch phrases like "hope and change." The result is that our country is up to its eyeballs in debt and ruled by con artists who promise things they cannot possibly deliver upon.

Avery Sewell and Coercion

The Other McCain is suggesting a new hero-- the unlikely one of Montgomery Ward's CEO who was forcibly taken out of his officers by men with rifles for the unforgivable sin of defying the all mighty and all knowing FDR. In ordinary times, this would seem absurd. But when "sharpening your elbows" is a key Obama strategy, resistance to coercion does take on a heroism it would ordinarily lack. Incidentally Barry, the Tea Party movement shows that when pushed, Americans will push back.

John Locke and "Deserving" Human Rights

John Locke thought that not everything born of woman was truly human--that those with sub-normal intelligence were unworthy of life. It should come as no surprise that "Lockean America" is comfortable with abortion.

I just read a ridiculous quote where someone said the "problem" with Benedict XVI is that he is a faithful Christian first and an intellectual second. Well, you know what? Most religious leaders aren't even an intellectual second. Nor would you describe most "journalists" (and I use that term advisedly, given what Time and Newsweek have degraded into)as intellectuals. No one has a problem with the fact that our president, who we are all told is an intellectual, has botched the response to the Gulf oil disaster. And Oh Blah Blah isn't a Catholic priest, so what is his excuse for incompetance, oh liberal media pundits?
